5 meses después el Bond post-Brosnan sigue sin tener cara:
'Casino' in Crisis?
September 05, 2005
If reports in the British press are to be believed, ‘Casino Royale’ is still in something of a casting and production crisis, reports Steven Woodbridge. But how true is this?
The UK’s ‘Sunday Times’ newspaper (September 4th) has claimed that time is running out for the next Bond production: the producers have no script, no Miss Moneypenny, and – astonishingly – no actor yet cast as 007. And filming is do to start in about 12 weeks time.
The paper reports that Amy Pascal, chair of Sony Pictures, will convene a ‘second 007 summit’ to pick a new 007 (and perhaps knock a few heads together). According to the newspaper, Sony has told EON that it may even have to postpone the next Bond film. The report seems to confirm the limbo the producers have found themselves in since the highly controversial decision to drop Pierce Brosnan from the role of Bond.
The report also follows other similar reports emerging from the USA, such as in The Hollywood Reporter on August 31st. In the Hollywood Reporter piece, both Steven Jay Rubin and casting agent Debra Zane assrt that it was a big mistake to let Pierce go. It was also claimed that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson could not agree on who was a suitable replacement.
So, is the film really in crisis? Yes and no! In contrast to the Sunday Times report, there is a script for ‘Casino’, penned by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have spent the last year and a half drafting it. Recently, Oscar-nominated Paul Haggis was recruited to ‘polish’ a second draft of the script (and not to rewrite it, as some commentators are claiming). It is true that the role of Miss Moneypenny remains uncast, as Samantha Bond has indicated that she thinks she is too old to reprise the role.
A new round of screentesting for Bond is now due to take place in September, and the net might be cast wider once more. Campbell appears to be in favour of a complete unknown in the role.
In the meantime, a Sony spokesman has repeated: “There is no pending announcement”.
