¿From donde? ¡¡No me dejes con la intriga!!Did you know that the Egyptian weightlifting team used to one of the very best teams in the entire world -- that several of their lifters were World and Olympic Champions -- that the lifting technique of their top lifters was considered the best in the world -- that one of their lifters was considered to be the fastest athlete in the entire world Ina any sport) -- that at one point their Heavyweight lifter (a World and Olympic Champion) was considered to be the strongest man in the world -- and that lifters and lifting fans around the world closely studied their workouts, training programs and lifting methods?
If you wanted to be strong back then, you literally trained like an Egyptian.
This was back in the 1920's, the 1930's and the 1940's.
And here's the interesting thing. The Egyptian team trained outside -- in the open air -- on the banks of the Nile River.
They had some wooden weightlifting platforms with barbells and dumbbells on them -- and nothing else.
Every day, the men on the team were out there training under the brutal African sun. The heat was searing. There was no shade anywhere. Just 15 to 20 men, tons and tons of black iron, and the kind of grim determination that builds champions.
Of course, none of the lifters from

any other countries trained in anything remotely approaching the typical modern gym.
Many lifters trained outside. Others trained in barns, basements or gymnasiums that featured sand-covered floors so they could drop their weights without damaging the bars, the plates or the floors. (Remember, this was back in the days of iron plates -- so dropping the bar could cause serious damage.)
I think the Egyptian lifters benefited enormously from training out in the fresh air and sunshine -- and I think the same was true of other lifters of the era who trained outdoors. Vitamin D is great for building your bones -- optimizing your hormones -- and promoting greater strength and muscular development.
I also think the lack of walls was a very good thing -- because it let you train in the fresh air -- and because no walls means no mirrors -- which is always a good thing.
Also, of course, the fact that the Egyptians trained with very basic equipment -- barbells and dumbbells -- was a very good thing. They didn't waste a single precious second on anything other than heavy barbell and dumbbell training.
Heck, if I had a time machine, I might just go back to Egypt in 1928 -- and train like an Egyptian!
As always, thanks for reading, and have a great day. If you train today, make it a good one!

Brooks Kubik
