"This afternoon Pad Thai Boy, Jolski and myself got together to discuss the way forward for KrUS & Sweethearts. Baseline for the discussion was the grim situation the bar industry in Thailand finds itself in, the likelihood that we won’t be able to re-open for the rest of the calendar year (in fact, from a budgeting perspective we have anticipated opening in February 2022 at the earliest), combined with the difficulties of re-opening 2 niche market LB bars when the tourist market will still be very slim and recovery will take a long time.
KrUS was a fairly short discussion. We agreed on some minor changes from a set up perspective which I’ll communicate in the KrUS thread at a later stage. As I said nothing major, we’ll continue KrUS pretty much as is.
The Sweethearts discussion however was a lot more complex and time consuming… As I wrote above the outlook is grim and we do not anticipate being able to re-open this calendar year. With that in mind we figured we have 3 options.
1. Do nothing and continue as is. Whilst an easy option it comes with some significant downsides: Licensing is due shortly, structural repairs and capital outlay for new equipment is needed. Even when allowed to re-open the bar will initially struggle to break even.
Licensing: due in September are music, entertainment, food, alcohol and guesthouse licenses.
Repairs: water pipes.
Capital outlay: 2 new air conditioners in bar, a new large fridge in bar, several repairs to air conditioners in rooms.
Vote: 3-0 against.
2. Try to sell or simply walk away. We actually had a decent offer on the bar a few weeks back but it came with conditions that were not acceptable to the landlord, so it fell by the wayside. Walking away would arguably be the easiest option but it would mean that the 7 staff who currently live above the bar free of charge would need to move out at fairly short notice. Whilst everyone in life is responsible for themselves, we felt that we too have a responsibility towards the wellbeing of our staff. For that reason, the vote went 3-0 against.
3. Do a major renovation and change direction entirely from the LB monger market to the GG monger market. Opinions were divided on this one given the cost involved, the grim/insecure situation the bar industry is in and for some a lack of affinity with the GG scene. It would however mean all our staff can remain living free of charge above the bar and the KrUS Live stream would be able to continue, providing a lifeline for both the girls and the bar.
The vote went 2-1 in favour of this option.
As a result, Pad Thai Boys partnership in Sweethearts comes to and end but he will stay as a partner in KrUS.
Jolski and myself will continue with Sweethearts but the bar will change name, get a major facelift and become a GG Gogo/Club. Amongst the changes will be a dancing stage, VIP/Private area and a dungeon themed ST room.
=> The KrUS Live stream will continue as normal on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9.30pm-11.30pm Thai time and Jimbo will continue as its host.
=> Staff can remain living above the bar free of charge.
=> If mods want to close this thread, they’re free to do so. Pics of the girls and further updates relating to KrUS will be posted on the KrUS thread.
We realise that for some of you guys the news that Sweethearts will cease to exist as a Ladyboy bar will be disappointing. It was a popular bar and in its short existence made quite an impact on the LB scene. It is disappointing for us too… Unfortunately, we live in unparalleled times and need to put economic reasons above sentimental feelings"
